7 reasons why I hate Flash

Saturday April 19, 2008

1. Flash is not free and it is not run/used/ compatible everywhere. (Thankfully).
2. Flash is proprietary.
3. Its never (ever) implemented in the right way. Flash is used as means to replace HTML and essentially breaks the principles of WWW (that is set-up for hypertext navigation).
4. Flash does not perform well (data-wise) with search engines. (Not a problem for me since I do not use it nor ever intend to.)
5. Flash Audio is beyond annoying and it adds nothing whatsoever to your site.
6. More flash Animation Ads. With the advancement of all those time consuming graphics and interactivity my web time can not be aggravated even more with these types of animated ads.
7. The script animations serve no purpose but to time-suck and boast-motion-graphic-design “skills”. This is a big one for me. And yes, that is correct I do not have 5-10 seconds to spare a site while I wait for it to load something that is visually aggravating.

SO I will end this post by saying, no, my site is by no mean perfect…but its pretty darn close. (Kidding of course there are a lot of areas I want to improve on my site.)
My boyfriend is the expert behind the coding and successful navigation on my site:
HTML + CSS + Javascript + CMS">PHP + Python and its W3 compliant.
It serves its purpose. Allows navigation through my site to view my photo collection, read some of my tirades, and find out a little more about me… and all without the added aggravation of waiting on “pretty script animations.”
