My sister’s thesis installation with beautiful dancing words…
I’m so ashamed and disappointed I didn’t get to see this in person.

A typographic installation, “Finn/Wake” reconstructs a night-dream series text from James Joyce’s novel: Finnegans Wake. Where Ulysses was a book of the day, Finnegans Wake is a book of the night or “nought-time.” Joyce purposely obscures what our eyes can(not) see by blurring over 17 different languages. Within this installation text is freed from the page and given a physical shape. Painted as a night-time landscape where language and vision are never fully discernible, the viewer experiences a moment of Joyce’s word play, outside of the page reading black text on a black background. Exhibited in the University of Michigan Warren Robbins Gallery, March 2008. Materials: masonite, wood, paper, mounted with insect needles.
