exquisite pain

Monday June 15, 2009

I’ve always enjoyed Sophie Calle’s work. She gives new meaning to introspection and in some of her work, stalking. One could easily replace “art” for “stalking,” in her observational and artistic studies of others. She muddles art & life but still manages to illuminate the lives of those she barely knows.

Still, it is her introspection that I am mostly captivated by. She reflects honestly about her suffering in Exquisite Pain (92 days to unhappiness). Even more, I have a very special fondness with my bed. I am obsessed with my dreams and what happens in my mind in the hours of sleep.

I am naturally drawn to this personalized project. It is my need to know more about my life. This is what i call my own “narcissistic egoism.” Slightly redundant yes but… I suppose that is me in a nutshell. I am constantly going in circles in search of myself.

I am often thinking…

How and when does the head override the heart?
It takes a lifetime to get to know those around you.
How long does it take to know yourself??
