RIP Pushkin von Bushwick
2004 - 2010
Pushkin was diagnosed with progressive renal failure this past Monday.
And today Pushkin was taken to the Humane Society to be euthanized at 8:30 am.
I wanted to euthanize Pushkin on Monday because his quality of life was seriously deteriorating, but was unable to. He bit a tech assistant at the Fillmore Veterinary Hospital and because his rabies vaccinations were not current, I was forced to quarantine him for 10 days, (in the event he could develop rabies symptoms.) Of course, having already had 2 rabies vaccinations and never having set foot outside, I knew he did not have rabies. But the manager and owner of the Fillmore Veterinary Hospital said, "There are no exceptions."
In all the veterinary hospitals that I have dealt with, I have
never experienced such unsympathetic, disingenuous veterinarians.
I realize rabies is a serious issue, but even the woman from the Colorado Department of Health did not agree with Fillmore Veterinary Hospital. Since Monday was day 5 of his quarantine, she said I
could have euthanized him on that day. But Fillmore Veterinary Hospital still would not allow me to euthanize him.
Above are some of the last pictures taken of Pushkin.
He was a great cat companion. I'm so sad he will not experience a full life.
Six years is much to short to not have him in this world.
